  1. Use the FeatureManager design tree filter to quickly find features

 

When working with complex parts or assemblies, the FeatureManager design tree can become cluttered with features, sketches, and components. Manually scrolling through a long list of the design tree to find a specific item can be time consuming. To make things easier, you can use the Filter Bar to search directly within the FeatureManager design tree without all the scrolling.

 

With the Filter Bar, you can quickly locate items in the FeatureManager design tree by simply typing a keyword at the top. You can filter by feature types, names, sketches, folders, mates, or even user-defined tags. When working with assemblies, it also lets you filter the graphics view or hide suppressed components. This makes it much easier to find what you need.

 

How to use it

  • Click inside the search bar and begin typing the name of a feature, sketch, or component. For example, typing “Boss” will highlight all related features like Boss-Extrude1, Boss-Extrude-Thin1, etc.
  • As you type, matching features will automatically be highlighted in the tree.
  • Click on any highlighted feature to instantly jump to it or right-click to edit it directly.

 

How to use it

– Type the name of a feature, sketch, or component.
– SOLIDWORKS will highlight all matching entries in the tree as you type.
– You can select one of the matching entries to edit the feature directly.

  1. Use the History Folder for easy access to recent features

 

The History Folder keeps your recent work easily accessible by tracking the features you have created or modified. During long design sessions, it is easy to lose track of your progress. The History Folder removes the guesswork by showing your most recent changes in one convenient location. Instead of scrolling through the entire FeatureManager design tree, simply check the History Folder to continue working from where you left off.

 

How to use it

  • If the History Folder is not visible, right click the FeatureManager design tree and select Hide/Show Tree Items. Then in the dialog box, select Show in History Folder.
  • Click on the History Folder to expand it and view your recent work.

  1. Set up Sensors to monitor key design parameters

 

In the design process, it is common to encounter issues where critical parameters such as mass, dimensions and interferences can exceed specified limits, causing delays and reworks. These problems often arise as the model evolves, and identifying them too late can result in costly mistakes. SOLIDWORKS Sensors offer you a proactive way to monitor your design in real-time, helping you identify and resolve potential issues before they escalate.

 

SOLIDWORKS Sensors are versatile tools that can monitor a wide range of factors throughout the design process. They track mass properties, dimensions, measurements, costing data, sheet metal bounding box properties, interferences between components or interreferences between a line and components in assemblies, and even simulation data. By setting specific thresholds, sensors can alert you when any of these factors deviate from the limits you specify, giving you

the opportunity to make adjustment and keep your design on track.

How to use it

  • If the Sensors folder is not visible, right click the FeatureManager design tree and select Hide/Show Tree Items. Then in the dialog box, select Show in Sensors.
  • Right-click the Sensors folder, select Add Sensor from the menu.
  • Choose the type of sensor you want to create (e.g., Mass Properties, Dimension, Simulation Data).
  • Set your desired conditions and thresholds. If these conditions are violated, SOLIDWORKS will display a warning icon next to the sensor in the tree.
