Horizon of AI in SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE

Dassault Systèmes and SOLIDWORKS has long incorporated the use of “AI” assistance in their programs and software, with many innovative design-related assistant tools already present in their products (both in Desktop SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Platform applications).

With an ever-increasing benefit and ever-growing demand for AI (Artificial intelligence), Dassault Systèmes and SOLIDWORKS development team are working hard in the background to bring us more and better generative AI tools to reality.

At the recent 3DEXPERIENCE World 2025 event, several upcoming “AI” functions were teased, with the aim to assist and aid designers and engineers in their work.

In this blog article, we will be having a sneak peek at some of those features and assistants on the horizon (expected in the coming months or years as of writing).

“Diagram Picture to Sketch” – 2D Conversion to Parametric

Input a 2D picture of a model shape/mechanism and have sketches, dimensions and constraints generated for you in a few steps with the “Picture to Sketch” tool.

“Aura – General assistant” – AURA, AI SOLIDWORKS Help chat assistant

A new chat assistant called “AURA” for designers and engineers. (Seen in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform’s 3DSwym role)

Abilities showcased include:

• Creation of assembly product structures of common designs.
• Functioning as a chatbot/assistant for SOLIDWORKS User Help and Design Guidance.
• Generative image renders of your existing 3D models.
• And more coming in the possible future…

“Aura – 3D Model from Picture” – Generative 3D Part Modelling

(Within 3DEXPERIENCE Platform’s 3DSwym role) A new chat assistant called “AURA” for designers and engineers.

Provide a picture of a 3D object with some descriptive input and “AURA” will attempt to generate a 3D mesh product file of the object on 3DEXPERIENCE for you to start working with it.

E.g.: “AURA” accessed from a smartphone connected to 3DEXPERIENCE 3DSwym:

“Aura – Assembly Virtual Designer” – Intelligent Mechanical Interface Recognition and Assembly

Lay out your assembly components on screen and let your virtual companion “Assembly Virtual Designer” assist you in scanning the parts and identifying mechanical interfaces and mate connections for a top-level assemble. Next ask it to generate the assembly and validate the result and perform kinematic tests.

“Aura – AI Image Product Renderer” – Generative Image renders of your 3D Models

Ask “AURA” to output AI-generated rendered images of your 3D Models and Products with descriptive inputs on background environments, lightning, texture, etc.
