In this blog post, we’ll be exploring the new drawing enhancements in SOLIDWORKS 2025. With key updates such as the ability to reload drawings, override BOM quantities for detailed cut lists, and create surface finish symbols in line with ISO 21920 standards, SOLIDWORKS 2025 offers powerful tools to streamline your drawing creation process. These improvements are designed to save you time and enhance accuracy.
Reload for Drawings
In SOLIDWORKS 2025, you have the option to revert your drawing files to the last saved version on your disk. The drawings in the current model are not arranged systematically due to recent changes that may have introduced inconsistencies, such as misplaced views. Since these changes have not been saved yet, you can use the reload command to address this issue. When you click reload, a dialog box will appear, warning you of any potential loss of unsaved changes. You can then confirm your action, which eliminates the need to close and reopen the drawing file.

Override BOM quantities for detailed cut lists
SOLIDWORKS 2025 introduces enhancement to detailed cut lists in the Bill of Materials table. This is a particularly useful feature when working with welded components. In this new release, you can take advantage of a simple checkbox that allows you to override the quantity value in the Bill of Materials table. Instead of displaying the standard quantity, you can replace it with any attribute of your choice from the cut list properties of the model. For instance, you can change the BOM quantity from quantity to length for each of the cut list items. This update is advantageous because it displays the total length needed for each item.

Creating Surface Finish Symbols in Conformance with ISO 21920
Keeping your drawings up to date with the latest industry is crucial for maintaining accuracy and consistency in manufacturing. In SOLIDWORKS 2025, the Surface Finish Symbols have been updated to align with the latest ISO 21920 Standard. With these updates, users can more accurately communicate surface finish requirements to manufacturers, reducing the risk of misinterpretation or errors during production.
