Using SOLIDWORKS PDM with SOLIDWORKS Connected

We have good news for 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Connected users who want to connect and use desktop SOLIDWORKS PDM (SOLIDWORKS PDM is a document management product based on a client/server architecture).

As of 3DEXPERIENCE R2024x FD03, there is now a new system option setting in SOLIDWORKS Connected to choose either the default 3DEXPERIENCE (ENOVIA PLM), or SOLIDWORKS PDM for centralized data management (refer screenshot below).

Note the option requires a SOLIDWORKS restart to take effect.

For compatibility, your SOLIDWORKS PDM Client must be on the same major version as the current SOLIDWORKS Connected version. (e.g. SWPDM Client 2024 with 3DEXP SW R2024x, which indirectly requires your PDM Server to be also on the latest major version.)

Below are some areas to take note for interface and functionality after toggling to the SOLIDWORKS PDM or another separately installed data management option:

• SOLIDWORKS Connected session does not load the “MySession” in the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane
• SOLIDWORKS Connected session does not load the “3DEXPERIENCE File on This PC” Task Pane (also known as the 3DEXPERIENCE local cache).
• You cannot open and save files to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
• The 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace add-in will still be available.
• Sharing of files via 3DDrive/3DSwym option remains accessible regardless of the data management system (refer screenshot below).

*For active projects and/or files with the same name, caution is advised when copying or duplicating the data to both 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and SOLIDWORKS PDM systems, as they are NOT linked. Doing so may result in un-updated and mis-matched datasets in the other system and user confusion.
